Relege Privacy Policy

Relege is a reader. It saves web pages, PDFs, and EPUBs into a personal library and lets you read, highlight, and track progress across your devices. This policy describes what data the Relege browser extension, the Relege iOS app, and their sync service handle, and why.

What we collect and store

• Account information. When you sign in with Google we receive your email address and basic profile identifier. This is used only to identify your account and your library. We never see your Google password.
• Content you choose to save. When you open a page in the reader or save it to your library, the article content, its URL and metadata, your highlights, notes, reading progress, and study flashcards are stored in your library so they sync across your devices. EPUB and PDF files you add are stored as files in your library.
• Library lookups on pages you visit. So that your saved highlights and reading position appear automatically when you return to a page, the extension (while you are signed in) asks your own library whether the current page has been saved. This lookup sends the page's URL to your account's backend. It is authenticated to your account, used only to answer "is this page in my library?", and is not stored. Pages you don't save leave no record. Signed out, no lookups happen.
• Paper metadata lookups. When something you save is an academic paper, its public identifier (a DOI or arXiv ID) is sent to Semantic Scholar to fetch citation metadata such as title, authors, and references. Only the paper's identifier is sent, never your account details.
• Error reports and performance measurements. If the extension or app crashes or hits an internal error, a technical report (error message, stack trace, app version, and, when relevant to the error, the address of the page involved) is sent to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider. The apps also send Sentry anonymous performance timings, such as how long a book or article took to open, so we can keep Relege fast. None of this is used for advertising or profiling.

What we do NOT collect

• We do not keep a history of your browsing. Beyond the transient library lookup described above, the extension acts on a page only when you invoke it (reader, highlight, save), and no browsing history is stored anywhere.
• No advertising, no analytics profiles, no sale or sharing of your data with third parties for their own purposes.
• No data is used for creditworthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to the reading service itself.

Where your data lives

• Your library is stored with Convex (backend database) in the EU (eu-west-1 region), and uploaded files (EPUB/PDF) with Cloudflare R2.
• The extension and app also keep local caches on your device (saved article bodies, book/PDF files) so your library opens instantly and works offline.

Data retention and deletion

Your library is retained until you delete it. You can remove individual items from your library at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, email support@relege.app and it will be removed.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will be published at this address.
